Con ext4 Ubuntu boota in 21 secondi!

Dopo il recente annuncio che Ubuntu 9.04 supporterà l'ormai stabile ext4 (il filesystem del futuro) ecco un'altra interessante notizia.

Softpedia, infatti, ha subito testato l'alpha di Ubuntu 9.04 utilizzando ext4 e ha verificato che con questo filesystem il sistema operativo effettua il boot in 21.4 secondi.

Un bel risparmio se si pensa che le distribuzioni più veloci per desktop o notebook si avviano in circa 30 secondi.

Ext4 non sarà comunque il filesystem predefinito fino alla versione 9.10 di Ubuntu nella quale sarà invece protagonista del processo di partizionamento a meno di cambiamenti di rotta dell'ultima ora.

Ext4 supererà diversi limiti imposti da ext3; prima di tutto il nuovo silesystem sarà più veloce (e lo dimostrano i tempi di boot). In secondo luogo innalzerà la dimensione massima archiviabile per singolo file a 16TB.

Infine, ecco i test realizzati da Softpedia:

· Ubuntu 8.10 with EXT3 filesystem boots in 31.8 seconds (on the AMD Sempron system);
· Ubuntu 9.04 Alpha (Build 20090112.1) with EXT3 filesystem boots in 28.3 seconds (on the AMD Sempron system);
· Ubuntu 9.04 Alpha (Build 20090112.1) with EXT4 filesystem boots in 23.1 seconds (on the AMD Sempron system).
· Ubuntu 8.10 with EXT3 filesystem boots in 26.8 seconds (on the Intel Core 2 Duo system);
· Ubuntu 9.04 Alpha (Build 20090112.1) with EXT3 filesystem boots in 24.5 seconds (on the Intel Core 2 Duo system);
· Ubuntu 9.04 Alpha (Build 20090112.1) with EXT4 filesystem boots in 21.4 seconds (on the Intel Core 2 Duo system)!
